Sunday General Practice Residency Fair Dr. Burton S. Wasserman developed the concept of a General Practice Residency Fair in 1985 and has personally overseen the event for the past 25 years. The creation of the GPR Fair was the result of a partnership between the American Association of Hospital Dentists and the Greater New York Dental Meeting. Not only did it become an enormously successful venture, but the idea has also been duplicated by many national, state and dental school meetings. An important option for future dental graduates is the pursuit of postgraduate training in the hospital environment prior to entering practice. The General Practice Residency Fair provides dental students an opportunity to gather information regarding general practice residency and advanced education in general dentistry programs in an informal atmosphere. Representatives from approximately 65 hospital dental residencies are present to discuss the content and nature of their programs, patient populations and treatment needs, as well as attending and resident staff and requirements. The General Practice Residency Fair enables students to review various residency programs without the logistical problems of individual site visits. This is the 25th annual General Practice Residency Fair, which is a joint venture of the American Association of Hospital Dentists, the Greater New York Dental Meeting and the dental schools throughout New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Connecticut. Dr. Burton S. Wasserman will be honored for his idea to create the General Practice Residency Fair and for his 25 years of service to maintaining its excellence at the Celebrity Luncheon on Monday, November 29.
