GRAND Magazine - September/October 2008 - (Page 76)
grand finale Long Ago under the Stars When I dreamed of a place in the cosmos, I envisioned my own star command Sailing the fiery dust of the universe, A river of angels to light my path. I’d jet between galaxies Spiral and elliptical, Drop in on Saturn As a good Capricornus would do, Or visit the moons of Jupiter Io and Ganymede. I’d skip Venus, sulfuric acid you know, But drape myself in aurora borealis, Glide on out to Neptune And marry the god of the sea. It did not come out that way. I landed with a bump To writhe among the mortals. But sometimes I take a break Behind my eyes And drift among the stars. —Sherry Ballou Hanson 76 GRAND SEPTEMBER OCTOBER 2008
