I was supporting those children. “Thank you,” the producer said, and she found someone else, someone who said “yes” when asked if she were an expert. What makes a parent—and, in our case, a grandparent (and, for some of us, a great-grandparent!)—an expert? We’d all agree that simply having babies does not make someone a parenting expert, and we’d also have to agree that when those children have children, we do not magically become grandparenting experts. And I’d be quick to add that founding and publishing a magazine for grandparents doesn’t make one an expert, either. What we are experts at—the right answer for the producer that, of course, occurred to me days later—is helping people make connections with other people…who, while not experts either, are people who have similar concerns, experiences, dilemmas and, occasionally, victories. GRAND is a forum in the true sense—a place we have created for you to gather, share, laugh, cry, debate and learn. With the introduction of the e-zine format (linked to many additional resources on our Web site and throughout the ’net), we have expanded the GRAND forum into an interactive world. In this new world, no one is an expert; everyone is on a steep learning curve, whether it is the challenge of technology or the daunting frontier of adolescent grandchildren. We’re learning along with you. We’ve had stumbles; we’ve had, thankfully, many more triumphs. At GRAND, we’re not looking for experts. We’re looking for friends. And so, my friends, what can you share with our community to make us all “experts”? A Christine Crosby, Publisher ccrosby@grandmagazine.com 4 GRAND MARCH Richard J.
