grand central Friday fave Driving to work each Friday morning, I listen to “StoryCorps” on my National Public Radio (NPR) station. Invariably, by the time I turn in to the parking lot, I am either blinking away tears or full-out weeping. These broadcasts are three-minute excerpts of private conversations recorded between two family members or close friends; most are almost unbearably poignant. One story told of life partners Larry and Roy, and how Larry’s grandbaby helped Roy grieve for his dying father. In another, a granddaughter’s birth brought the families of a biracial couple together. So far more than 16,000 conversations have been recorded and archived in the Library of Congress.
