My “Grammie” award
I work primarily at home writing craft and activity books for kids, some of which require recycling common household “throwaway” items. My grandson Dominic not only serves as an inspiration but also is often my very own test market and quality control. This particular day, he was creating something “special.” He had just finished eating a foil-wrapped candy when inspiration struck. He began to roll and fold. “Here’s your award for being able to make anything out of anything,” he announced. He knew I’d appreciate the joke. I can say with some assurance that I will probably never win an Oscar, a Pulitzer, or an Emmy, but I am the recipient of my very own “Grammie.” —Mary Doerfler Dall, author of the award-winning Little Hands Create. This film really had me and my grandsons laughing. It is simply preposterous! Finn, a life-loving, Frisbee-playing dog, and his shy, 13-year-old owner, Peter have the most bizarre experience when a lab experiment goes wrong and Finn is accidentally transformed into a human. Once on two legs, Finn catches Frisbees like a dog and then teaches Ben to find his own pack. Starring Ana Gasteyer, Matthew Knight, Ryan Belleville, Brendon Firla and David Milchard. $24.95. 101 min.; Age: 5-12.
