Seeking an adorable gift for your
grandkids, spouse, or even yourself?
We fell in
love with the
hats of Little
Lids when we
saw the cool
styles and meticulous attention to detail in the
way they're made. From the "scally" and flat
caps, to hats for summer and winter, kids and
adults, Little Lids offers it all. And, they have a
nice story. When owner Kerry's son was born he
wanted to buy him a hat like the ones worn by
his father and the generations of Irish men who
preceded him. He couldn't find any that were
stylish and well made so he started his own
company to produce hats good enough for his
family to wear with pride.
The hats are beautiful and feel great too.
They come in a rainbow of colors and patterns;
we selected a gray and white herringbone and
a pink and green plaid. Both were wool with
comfy cotton interiors. They feel great on and
seem to be made to last, with solid seams that
can take some wear and tear and still look
jaunty for a long time. Affordably priced, and
because they have adult and children's sizes,
you could have Gramps or Grammy and me
matching caps! How cute would that be?

My mother lives alone and wants to stay
in her home, but we worry about her
The folks at Iamfine have come up with an easy way
for people who are living alone to check in every
day, letting loved ones know they are all right. No
technology is
required other
than a telephone.
Each day, the
service makes a
call to the person
living alone. By
simply answering
the phone and
pressing "1", the
loved one informs
members of a customizable "care circle" that things
are fine. If no one answers, the service repeatedly
calls throughout the day, and, if necessary, will notify
care circle members that someone may need to check
on the loved one. The Iamfine service is meant to
augment, not replace, loving contact. It also is not a
replacement for emergency service buttons and pendants. (see video below)
Yucky! Don't touch grandma's smart phone
According to a recent poll, half of parents routinely allow their infant
to play with their smartphone or tablet, and one in seven let them
spend more than four hours a day on hand-held devices. We don't
know what the long term effects will be on babies who are allowed
to play with electronics for hours on end, but if you are tempted to
hand over smartphone or iPad, be sure to clean them first. These
devices are a hotbed of germs. Yahoo reported that
fecal flora and E.coli are commonly found.
The makers of WHOOSH! developed a
simple solution they say will help keep
your device clean and safe. It's
100% non-toxic with a alcohol and
ammonia free formula.
Start your grandkids reading
Grandfather Shayne Packer has developed an app to help pre-readers. DaisyQuest is
an award-winning game for pre-readers that teaches phonological awareness (sounds
in words) such as rhyming, beginning, middle, and ending sounds. DaisyQuest is also
an adventure game
in which a magical
wizard guides the
child. The player
searches for Daisy,
the friendly dragon.
For ages 3 and up.
DaisyQuest runs on
the iPhone, iPad, and
iPod Touch. It's now
available in Apple's
AppStore
