Time to read
a great book

here's almost nothing better than cuddling up with a grandchild and reading a story together. It's also awesome to have an
older grandchild read a story to you. But be sure you take time
to enjoy books solo as well.
One of my great hobbies is reading and now that I'm a grandmother, I
have even more time to indulge. So, I'd like to tell you about a few of my
favorite books. I'm not a literary critic and my intent is not to give away
any plots, just a little blurb about each book to whet your appetite.

My favorite book from this past year
is Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi. I enjoy
multigenerational books and this
one does not disappoint. The tapestries of characters are vibrant and
stay with you, even when you're not
reading it. I will not forget this beautiful, heartening story for years to
come. I learned a lot about strength
and hope from this remarkable
book.

Next is A Fall of Marigolds, by
Susan Meissner. This gorgeous
story weaves between the early
1900's and current times. The two
stories blend together smoothly
and take the reader on a spectacular journey. You disappear into
this story and don't want to return
to reality. Even if I only had a few
minutes to spare, I would dive into
a few pages happily.

Finally, for a relatable, charming
"grandparent book," The Curious
Charms of Arthur Pepper. It's an
adorable story of aging that made
me laugh throughout Mr. Pepper's
Journey. I think we all have a little
bit of Arthur Pepper in us.

The Things We Keep by
Sally Hepworth is about a
young woman diagnosed
with Alzheimer's disease at
age 38. This story is filled
with both heartbreak and
happiness for the characters.
A book not to be missed,
it teaches a lesson about
appreciating what we have.

Barbara is a grandmother to seven and still makes
time to read!
