women in the U.S., with many discovering the sport
later in life. The US Adult Soccer Association hosts
tournaments for women aged over 30 to over 70.

Check out the award-winning documentary Alive
& Kicking: The Soccer Grannies of South Africa.
Eighteen years later, over 250 teams of grandmothers
exist across South Africa and beyond.
Her teams have traveled the world promoting
exercise for all ages. In March 2023 the Beka
Ntsanwisi Foundation hosted the first-ever Grannies
International Football Tournament with 16 teams
from Africa, the United States, and Europe. The
event, widely covered by global media, was a joyous
celebration of health, aging, and community.
The well-orchestrated event opened with a
parade of teams through town.
The South African and U.S. teams celebrate
together as a goal is scored.

Throngs of spectators filled the stands and
leaped to their feet, dancing at each goal.
The final games included penalty kicks, with the
U.S. Breakers emerging victorious.
The Foundation is planning an even bigger
