Her early years in Brussels, Belgium, laid the
foundation for a life that would be anything but
ordinary.
Her first practice in the fashion industry started
in Paris, when she was an assistant fashion photographer
for Albert Koski. Afterward, she continued
to Italy and entered as an apprentice in the textile
manufacturing business of Angelo Ferretti; there,
she acquired knowledge about knitting, cutting,
color printing, and fabric. Her first silk jersey dresses
were made in that factory.

journey from Madrid University to the University of
Geneva, she crossed paths with her first husband,
Prince Egon zu Fürstenberg. The marriage led her
to New York, where she would later make history by
creating her iconic wrap dress.
Though short-lived, the union with Prince Egon
bore two precious fruits - a son, Prince Alexandre
von Furstenberg, and a daughter, Princess Tatiana
von Furstenberg. Despite the amicable divorce
in 1972, Diane retained her married name, a testament
to her independence and the drive to be
more than just a spouse. Sadly, Ergon died in 2004.
If I was afraid of the
dark, she would lock
me in a dark closet
and wait outside so
