2020 CATALYST HANDBOOK INDUSTRY CATEGORIES PROCESS CATEGORIES COMPANY INDEX REFINING Hydrotreating CDS-RS Series Application: The CDS-RS Series includes hydrodesulfurization catalysts for residual hydrodesulfurization (RDS) as pretreatment for the RFCC. CDS-RS110 and CDS-RS210 are demetallization catalysts with a high demetallization selectivity. CDS-RS420 is a transition catalyst with higher desulfurization activity and high demetallization activity. Description: The CDS-RS Series can improve the quality of resid oil using MAGIC technology. The catalyst design is sophisticated in terms of pore structure (mega-/macro-/meso-pores, Fig. 1), chemical properties and carrier surface. CDS-RS Series catalysts extend the life of the RDS operation through higher metals tolerance and better HDM selectivity with an optimized pore structure. Higher metals tolerance and HDM selectivity, along with higher HDS and hydrogenation activity, are achieved by protecting the HDS catalyst. Advantages: The product oil treated by CDS-RS Series catalysts has low sulfur content, low metals content and high hydrogen content. These properties encourage good performance in the RFCC unit, including greater liquid yield and low coke formation. Refineries can obtain higher refining margins with the use of CDS-RS Series catalysts. Economics: CDS-RS Series catalysts help improve the quality of the hydroprocessed bottom fraction and improve the RFCC performance. Development: The CDS-RS Series was developed in 2011. Fig. 1.
