2020 CATALYST HANDBOOK INDUSTRY CATEGORIES PROCESS CATEGORIES COMPANY INDEX REFINING Isomerization RISO-D C5 /C6 Isomerization Catalyst Application: The RISO-D C5 /C6 Isomerization Catalyst (Fig. 1) is a light paraffin isomerization catalyst developed by Sinopec Research Institute of Petroleum Processing (RIPP) in 2017. It can be used in C5 /C6 isomerization processes to produce high-octane gasoline components with light naphtha as feedstock. Description: The RISO-D C5 /C6 Isomerization Catalyst is a chlorided alumina catalyst. At the mild conditions of 120°C-170°C, 2.5 MPa-3.5 MPa and WHSV of 1-2 h-1, the catalyst is able to promote the RON of isomerate to 83-84 in a " once-through " process (Fig. 2). When combining the low-octane isomer recycle process, the final RON of the isomerate can be as high as 90. Advantages: The catalyst is characterized by high catalytic activity at low temperature on C5 /C6 isomerization, high selectivity on multi-branched isoparaffin, low hydrogen consumption, etc. High activity of the catalyst eliminates the need for a furnace to raise the reaction temperature; steam heating is sufficient. Furthermore, the activity of the catalyst can be maintained at rather low H2 /hydrocarbon molar ratio, so a circulation compressor is not needed.
