Description: The methanation catalyst is used for final removal of CO and CO2 in ammonia and hydrogen plants. In SNG plants, the PK-7R catalyst is used for conversion of CO and CO2 into methane in the final methanation steps at low temperature and low steam content. Advantages: The PK-7R catalyst is characterized by very high activity within a wide temperature range, which ensures maximum conversion of CO and CO2 during the very long catalyst lifetime (often exceeding 20 years). The ring shape of the catalyst ensures a low pressure drop. The PK-7R is delivered in a prereduced state, and no special activation procedure is required, as the methanation reaction starts immediately when the catalyst is exposed to process gas at normal operating conditions. Compared to unreduced methanation catalysts, this results in a much faster startup, leading to higher profits. Fig. 1. Topsoe PK-7R Catalyst. Development: PK-7R is the newest catalyst on the market.
