2020 CATALYST HANDBOOK INDUSTRY CATEGORIES PROCESS CATEGORIES COMPANY INDEX REFINING Shift reaction/H2 synthesis PETROCHEMICAL Shift reaction/H2 synthesis ShiftMax 217 Application: Low-temperature water-gas shift application. Description: ShiftMax 217 is a specially promoted low-temperature-shift (LTS) catalyst (Fig. 1) that minimizes methanol byproduct formation without decreasing the catalyst's activity and stability for water-gas-shift reactions. The catalysts also feature high CO conversion over its long lifetime, excellent poison resistance and superior physical strength. The unparalleled performance and stability have been proven in numerous commercial LTS reactors worldwide. Advantages: * Excellent mechanical stability in oxidized and reduced forms * Outstanding activity and stability over the entire lifetime * Effective suppression of methanol formation without compromising catalyst activity or stability * Low CO slip * High poison resistance * Long catalyst lifetime. Economics: Increased ammonia production due to less methanol formation. Development: Commercially available since 2008. Fig. 1. ShiftMax 217 catalyst. Supplier: Clariant International Ltd.
