2020 CATALYST HANDBOOK INDUSTRY CATEGORIES PROCESS CATEGORIES COMPANY INDEX REFINING FCC 11.0 MP Additive/FLOS Additive Application: The MP Additive is designed to increase propylene. The FLOS Additive is designed to easily tune the propylene-to-isobutene ratio and increase light olefins. Description: To maximize the C3 /C4 ratio in LPG, the MP Additive uses bi-elementmodified ZSM-5 as the active component. Together with the matrix stabilization technology, the ZSM-5 component converts gasoline olefins to light olefins. The FLOS Additive adopts multifunctional zeolites for the isomerization and cracking cascade reactions. It also uses matrix modification to enhance large-molecule isomerization and hydrothermal stability. Specifically, it converts diesel and gasoline into propylene (Fig. 1) and isobutene (Fig. 2). The additives have been commercialized and applied in more than 10 FCC units since 2005. 9.5 8.0 Advantages: The MP Additive provides high propylene yield (propylene-toLPG fraction), excellent hydrothermal stability and reduced coke formation. The FLOS Additive exhibits high yield of isobutene or propylene (based on customer demand) and high concentration in LPG. The two additives have good sphericity, which is suitable for any FCC operation. Economics: The additives can effectively increase propylene and butylene to provide feedstock for light olefins units to produce value-added products, which increase the overall economic benefit of a refinery. Using the MP additive in a 1-MMtpy FCC unit leads to more than CNY 20 MM/year in additional profit. 10.0 3.5 3.0 2.5 10/07 09/08 08/09 08/10 Date 07/11 Fig. 2.
