PROTON EXCHANGE MEMBRANE (PEM) ELECTROLYZER
M Series
DESCRIPTION: Nel Hydrogen's M-series fully automated MW-class onsite hydrogen
generator electrolyzers utilize the Proton® PEM technology for electrolysis of water to
produce ultra-high purity, pressurized, hydrogen onsite. M Series hydrogen generators
offer a modular array-based design featuring a selectable tri-mode operation:
* Command Following mode allows operation based on available input power
* Load Following mode automatically adjusts output to match demand
* Tank Filling mode operates with power-conservation mode during standby.
With minimal maintenance and siting requirements, M Series electrolyzers can
produce up to 5,000 Nm3/hr of hydrogen gas at 99.9998% purity on-demand.
PEM HYDROGEN GENERATION PLANT COMPONENTS:
* Transformer/rectifier: The transformer and rectifier convert the AC voltage
supply into DC current input.
* Electrolyzer: The electrolyzer is based upon PEM technology. Hydrogen gas is
generated at the cathode at elevated pressures up to 30 barg. Oxygen gas is
produced at the anode at pressures close to ambient. The near infinite bubble
point of the membrane prevents oxygen from entering the hydrogen stream.
The full differential pressure design provides for safe and simple operation.
* The hydrogen/water separator: The hydrogen/water separator removes
liquid water from the high-pressure hydrogen and safely recycles it back to the
system water tank.
* Dryer: The dryer will dry the gas to reach the suitable dew point. It consists
of multiple beds filled with a desiccant to absorb the water.
* Hydrogen storage: The gas storage provides a back-up solution or ensures
hydrogen make-up for batch applications with uneven gas consumption.

* Water consumption rate: 0.9 L/Nm3
