1-MW Advanced Alkaline Electrolyzer
DESCRIPTION: Hydrox Holdings' advanced alkaline electrolyzer operates in
the liquid alkaline space and takes on the state-of-the-art zero gap configuration.
The zero gap configuration targets increased cell component lifespans under both
stable and fluctuating power loads (associated with renewable energy) and allows
for operating at high-performance/high-current density. This electrolyzer system
incorporates membrane and catalyst materials from well-recognized providers,
resulting in a reliable and robust high-performance system design. Hydrox Holdings
provides 1-MW containerized production plants, which allows for ease of installation
and maximum flexibility.
ADVANTAGES/KEY FEATURES: Hydrox Holdings' electrolyzer incorporates highperformance
membrane and catalytic materials, resulting in a stack performance of
more than 700 mA/cm2 at 1.8 VDC (> 82% HHV stack efficiency).
* Modular cell elements combined into a scalable bipolar stack: The stack is
in the form of a bipolar filter press stack; however, it contains discrete modular
elements comprised of three electrolytic cells. These modular elements are
intrinsically fully enclosed, stand-alone electrolyzers that can be isolated, easily
handled and removed for ease of maintenance without the need of stack
disassembly onsite or for extended periods of plant shutdown. Cells within the
electrolyzer stack will incorporate shared components (bipolar plates), giving
it a competitive edge in capital expenditure reduction.
* BOP compatible with new generation cell technology: The main units of the
electrolysis system, such as the stack and balance of plant, are manufactured
from polymers and nickel. This prevents contamination of the catalyst and
liquid electrolyte by eliminating ferrous metals in wetted plant components,
increasing component lifespans and time between maintenance schedules.
Furthermore, with the reduction of ferrous metal components coupled with
the zero-gap design, Hydrox Holdings' technology is well positioned to
incorporate future advancements in catalytic and membrane materials; thus,
remaining state-of-the-art in the liquid alkaline space.
* Stack compatible with the input of a renewable energy source: Zero-gap
systems are essentially ideal for linkage to renewable energy loads. Pressure
differentials that arise from the natural fluctuation in the current densities are
absorbed by the elastic element that is integrated into the cell's construction.
The membrane components are continuously supported, which ensures
extended longevity.

* First OEM of liquid alkaline electrolyzers in South Africa: With the
deployment of its 1-MW liquid alkaline system, Hydrox Holdings is positioned
as the first original equipment manufacturer (OEM) of such technology in
Africa. Hydrox Holdings will leverage this position to provide a low-cost
hydrogen production solution and offer local OEM support and services.
