DESCRIPTION: thyssekrupp has developed a modularized
and cost-efficient solution for large scale hydrogen
production based on their chlor-alkali electrolysis
technology and experience in industrial large-scale
electrolysis applications. The 20-MW alkaline water
electrolysis unit is offered as a prefabricated skid-mounted
module for simplifying construction of new hydrogen
plants and minimizing costs. The basic 20-MW modules
can be added up to several hundred megawatts and up to
gigawatt scale for large scale hydrogen generation.

* Nominal power consumption at beginning
of life (direct current): 4.5 kWh/Nm3
* Nominal production rate: 4,000 Nm3/hr
* H2 purity at electrolyzer-outlet: 99.9% (dry basis)
* H2 purity at electrolyzer-outlet after treatment
(optional): up to 99.999%
* Water consumption rate: 9 kg/kg of H2 produced
* Electrolyte: Potassium hydroxide
* Ambient temperature: Standard 40°C
(variable depending on projects)
* Hydrogen delivery pressure: Approximately
1.3 bar(a), but compression option is offered.
* Life expectancy: 20 yr-25 years
* Footprint: About 2,500 m2 per 100 MW, including,
transformer, rectifier and compression to 30 bar
APPLICATIONS/INDUSTRIES SERVED: Industries
served include petrochemicals, refining, transportation/
mobility, synthetic fuels, ammonia/fertilizer, steel/metals
production, renewable energy grid, chemical/industrial
processes, upgrading biomass/biofuel/biomethane/
biomethanol production, commercial distributed gases,
thermal processing and utilization of heat.
ELECTROLYZER IN-UNIT ACCESSORIES: Includes
water separator, transformer, rectifier and offer option
for purifier, deoxidizer, dryer and compression system.
SERVICES PROVIDED: Feasibility studies, detail
engineering, installation, EPC for hydrogen generation
plants, and downstream plant and monitoring; service
and maintenance, parts replacement and cell separators
for electrolyzer system through entire plant life with
supply chain equipped to provide large scale hydrogen
projects and customized project support.
