hub in the region. Many of these projects are being
developed in the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone)-
the region has signed several Memorandum of Understanding
(MoUs) worth more than $10 B. Egypt's notable
green H2
and green ammonia projects include:
* EDF Renewables and ZeroWaste plan to build
a $3-B green ammonia production facility in the
SCZone. The project's initial phase will produce
140,000 tpy of green ammonia, which will be
ramped up to 350,000 tpy in a later phase. The
green ammonia will be used to supply marine
vessels with a carbon-free fuel.
* Total Energies and several Egyptian entities signed
an MoU in mid-2022 to develop a 300,000-tpy green
ammonia plant in the SCZone. The project's goal is
to eventually scaleup production to 1.5 MMtpy.
* A consortium consisting of the Sovereign Fund of
Egypt, Scatec ASA, Orascom Construction, Fertiglobe,
H2 Industries and the Egyptian Fertilizers Co. will
invest approximately $4 B to build a 1-GW wasteto-H2
plant
in Port Said. The facility will convert
4 MMtpy of non-recyclable plastic and agricultural
waste into 300,000 tpy of green H2
is scheduled to begin in 2026.

* Eni is working with the Egyptian Electricity Holding
Co. and the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Co. on
the feasibility of several green and blue H2
projects
in the country. The group is conducting studies on
