2020 REFINING PROCESSES HANDBOOK PROCESS CATEGORIES COMPANY INDEX HYDROGEN GENERATION Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) H2 product Application: Produces ultra-high purity hydrogen (H2 ) from syngas and other H2 -rich offgases from chemical and refining industry processes. Examples include ethane steam cracking, propane and butane dehydrogenation, chlor-alkali processing and catalytic reforming. Description: High-purity H2 is produced from syngas and offgas streams using specialized adsorbents with selective affinity for particular gases to remove multiple and varied contaminants at ambient temperature. High performance is achieved by simulating the adsorption and regeneration cycles and tailoring the mix of adsorbents to each customer's unique needs. Process parameters include: * Product flows ranging from less than 100,000 sft3/d to more than 150 MMsft3/d * Purity levels of up to 99.999% H2 (impurities at ppm levels) * Product pressures from 100 psig-500+ psig * Low- or high-pressure tail gas * Minimal pressure drop. Advantages: Ability to produce ultra-high purity (99.999%) H2 and carbon dioxide (CO2 ) simultaneously with decreased cycle time. PSA allows versatility for tailoring processes to meet unique customer requirements.
