54-inch HDPE-HDD Project Honored

A project believed to be the longest installation by horizontal directional drilling (HDD) of large-diameter
HDPE pipe, was honored as Project of the Year, $10-$20 million construction cost category, by the Cuban
American Association of Civil Engineers and the Association of Cuban-American Engineers.
Involving 4,300 feet of 54-inch diameter HDD Redundant Force Main in the busy South Beach area of Miami Beach, FL, the project will provide an alternate backup sewer release for South Beach.
Brian Dorwart of Brierley Associates served as engineer-of-record for the HDD design on this challenging
and record-setting project. Other team members contributing to the project's success include:
* David Mancini, president of David Mancini & Sons Inc., construction
* Bruce Mowry, Ph.D., P.E., at the City of Miami Beach, received the Luis P. Saenz Engineer of the Year
Award.
* Carlos Gil-Mera, P.E., principal at A&P Consulting Transportation Engineers, the overall civil engineer for
the project, received the Ing. Plinio Villanueva Award.

Products made by the Wirtgen Group are complementary in the road construction process to John Deere equipment shown
at steps 1, 5, 6 and 7.

Deere to Acquire the Wirtgen Group
Deere & Company, a world leader in providing advanced products and services for those whose work is
linked to the land, has signed a definitive agreement to acquire the Wirtgen Group, a worldwide manufacturer of road construction equipment.
Headquartered in Germany, the Wirtgen Group has five premium brands spanning milling, processing, mixing, paving, compaction and rehabilitation. This highly complementary product portfolio enhances
Deere's existing offering and establishes Deere as an industry leader in global road construction.
Deere plans to maintain the Wirtgen Group's existing brands, management, manufacturing footprint,
approximately 8,000 employees and distribution network across more than 100 countries. The combined
business is expected to benefit from sharing best practices in distribution, customer support, manufacturing
and technology, as well as in scale and efficiency of operations.
The transaction has been approved by Deere's Board of Directors. The purchase is subject to regulatory
approval in several jurisdictions, as well as certain other customary closing conditions, and is expected to be
completed in the first quarter of Deere's 2018 fiscal year.

was a highlight of the birthday celebration.

CASE Celebrates 175th
Birthday
CASE Construction Equipment celebrated the brand's 175th birthday
with a rally and luncheon attended by
more than 800 employees in Racine,
WI, as well as local dignitaries, elected
officials and a descendant of the Case
family.
"Not every company gets to celebrate 175 years, and it's worth taking
a moment to recognize that this is a
company with significant history and
deep roots," said Richard Tobin, CEO
of CNH Industrial, CASE's parent
company.
The company was founded in 1842
in nearby Rochester, WI, as the Racine
Threshing Machine Works Company.
It evolved into one of the world's most
iconic manufacturers of construction
and agricultural equipment.
Dignitaries joining in the celebration included U.S. Speaker of the
House Paul Ryan, the congressman
representing Wisconsin's 1st congressional district, and a bipartisan coalition of state lawmakers.
A highlight of the event was Kaleb
Jerome Case, the great grandson of
company founder Jerome Increase
(J.I.) Case, who shared humorous anecdotes from family lore.
"J.I.'s passion was power, speed
and durability," said Case. "J.I.'s love of
machines prompted him towards manufacturing. I have a copy of the letter
he wrote to his wife Lydia. He had just
delivered the last of well under a dozen
machines and lamented that he would
be out of business - no one would
need any machines any more. Wow.
He should be here today."
