John Deere Loads Up
Bucket Options
John Deere's new enhanced production series buckets for the 744K-II, 824K-II and
844K-III wheel loader models are available in 30 configurations that improve loading and visibility, are easier and
quicker to repair, and extend bucket life in all types of material.
Bucket design updates include adding curved profile side cutters that
improve material retention and allow for better bucket fill of loose material.
Integrated narrow spill guards increase visibility to the load so the operator
can see when the bucket is full. This helps reduce loading time, fuel consumption and number of loads on the machine, and protects wheel loader
linkage. Bushed static bucket pin joints greatly reduce the need for welding
and align boring for repair, enable repair in the field, and greatly reduce
maintenance time overall.
John Deere has also added a 90-inch Light Material High-Capacity Bucket to its lineup of Worksite Pro attachments. Designed to take advantage of
the powerful and highly productive new G-Series skid steers and compact
track loaders (CTLs), the 90-inch light material bucket has a heaped capacity of 54 cubic feet and can carry more material per load than previous John
Deere offerings. Its increased width and high-back design reduces spillage
and provides industry-leading capacity. An integrated step on the back of
the bucket is also included for easy entry and exit from the machine.
With the universal, self-cleaning Quik-Tatch easy attachment system
found on all John Deere skid steers, CTLs and compact excavators, the machine can easily add and remove the Light Material High-Capacity bucket in

StraightLine HDD
StraightLine HDD Inc. has upgraded its popular Performix Mud Mixing System. At the heart
of the system is the centrifugal pump, which
generates the best laminar flow in the industry
and now features a silicon-carbide shaft seal.
Compared to traditional ceramic seals, the
new seal offers advanced resiliency when
subjected to the highly abrasive elements
present in mud mixing. In field testing, silicon
carbide seals improve service life by a factor of three over ceramic seals. The
Performix pump retains its lubricated housing feature, which protects the
pump seal from mechanical damage if the pump ever runs dry.

Toro Launches SmartTouch For Directional Drill
Utilities and underground industry contractors have a new tool to increase
productivity. Toro's TDOS-1 with SmartTouch, available as an option on the
DD2024 directional drill, streamlines pipe handling by allowing the operator
to use the cam rocker switch to advance through the pipe handling process.
Combined with mode selection (drill out or pull back), the SmartTouch feature also performs some pipe handling functions in tandem to help reduce
overall cycle times for enhanced productivity.
"We've heard from drill operators that every second counts when it
comes to pipe handling cycle times, and SmartTouch makes it possible
to perform more functions at the same time," explained Joshua Beddow,
marketing manager at The Toro Company. "Even new operators can quickly
achieve faster pipe handling cycles using the SmartTouch mode."
In addition, the SmartTouch software upgrade gives the DD2024 a more
visually appealing and intuitive interface for accessing drill functions and
information on the drill display. Operators can select single or dual joystick
mode on the fly, as well as easy-to-use torque, thrust and tool rotation
selectable limits for quick adjustments to match bore requirements. Display
contrast and day/night modes can be adjusted as light conditions change.
Other features include advanced hour meters that record engine and
drill operating time for accurate machine utilization information and pre-set
maintenance reminders. Diagnostic screens provide real-time information
for rapid troubleshooting.
TDOS-1 with SmartTouch is available to install on existing units and all,
new DD2024 units will feature the new operating system. Toro recommends
that DD2024 machines currently in operation be updated to TDOS-1 or the
