REHABTECHNOLOGY Emergency Large-Diameter Lining Repair in Louisville Jeff Griffin | Senior Editor Emergency renovation of a 1,400-foot-long segment of a large sewer interceptor tunnel running beneath downtown Louisville, Ky., is one of the most memorable recent projects for PVC lining system manufacturer Danby. Constructed in 1950, the interceptor's dimensions are 7 feet by 7 feet, and it's made of concrete and clay-fired brick with an arched ceiling and curved brick floor. The tunnel carries most of the raw sewage for downtown Louisville, and when a section of the tunnel collapsed, immediate renovation became necessary to avoid further damage to streets and nearby utilities. The solution was to line the segment of the tunnel with Danby PVC panels. " This was a true 'failure-is-not-an-option' situation, " said Linda Cassel, Danby director of global operations.
