John Deere Adds Industry-First,
Grade Control-Ready Offering to
L-Series Tractor Loaders

A first in the construction market, John Deere
210L and 210L EP tractor loaders are available with
grade control-ready and grade indication factory
options, allowing for faster and more accurate fine
grading. Combined with an updated box blade,
the grade technology options lead to increased
productivity and efficiency when completing
site prep, road building and landscaping jobs,
especially in tight areas.
The grade control-ready machines are designed
to support 2D or 3D grade control technology solutions, automatically controlling the box blade's lift
and tilt cylinders. Additionally, the factory-installed
grade control-ready solution requires no hydraulic
hose disconnections or bracket welding and is
designed to minimize technology installation.
When adding grade control capabilities in the
field, customers simply select their preferred
technology provider (e.g., Topcon, Trimble or
Leica) and work with their dealer to install the
finishing kit on the machine.
A factory-installed grade indication option
provides an on-board readout of the machine cross
slope and main fall slope in real time, all within the
existing machine's display. This simple, integrated
solution requires no additional hardware or software.
The machines are also equipped with an
updated box blade, providing a single attachment
solution designed to both cut the grade and spread
materials accurately with great visibility. Increased
clearance of the ripper mechanism on the box
blade allows rock and gravel to more readily pass
through the frame. It features fewer moving parts,
increasing reliability, while the ripper hook has
improved locking in the working position.
210L is equipped with a 93-horsepower
PowerTech Plus diesel engine, while the 210L
EP boasts a 69-horsepower Yanmar engine that
requires no aftertreatment components to
comply with Environmental Protection Agency
emissions regulations. Both models feature
a four-speed PowerShiftâ¢ transmission for
smooth, no-clutch, fingertip shifting.

The on-the-fly mechanical front-wheel drive
can be engaged to give extra traction in poor
job-site conditions or to move heavy loads. An
optional limited-slip front axle delivers 65 percent
of available power to the tire, with the best traction
for true all-wheel-drive pulling power. Compared
to the K-Series models, loader lift cycle times and
lifting capacity were increased by 26 percent and 17
percent, respectively, increasing productivity.
Additionally, when the ride control option is
activated, the front loader hydraulic cylinders act as
shock absorbers with or without full loads, smoothing box blading over rough terrain to help get sites
to grade and reduce operator fatigue.

Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) operators
know that keeping their machines up and running
is the key to staying profitable. With the new Ditch
Witch PowerHouse XD housing, drillers can be
confident they'll be able to keep their equipment
operating at its maximum efficiency.
" In direct response to customer feedback, the
rear lid pin has been removed, which reduces the
hardware required on a job site and the likelihood
of stress fractures in a critical, high-stress area, "
said Josh Kennedy, Ditch Witch HDD pipe and
tooling product manager. " Instead, the updated
housing design only uses a lid pin and retainer pin,
leaving no threads to come loose. "
The new HDD tool optimizes fluid flow to ensure
spoils are removed properly and keeps valuable
electronics cooler. Having the ability to know exactly where the drill head is during a bore is essential.
The PowerHouse XD is a durable and trusted
housing, designed and manufactured to ensure the
beacon does not overheat and lose functionality.
Additionally, the fluid nozzles at the front of the
housing have been recessed for greater protection
against harsh conditions. This feature increases

new Load Assist applications and now makes all
apps compatible on a wider range of its wheel
loaders. Furthermore, Volvo launched several
productivity and serviceability enhancements
to those same machines.
Load Assist apps are operated via the Volvo
Co-Pilot - an in-cab display with a 10-inch,
high-resolution touch screen. First introduced in
2016, with the On-Board Weighing app, it offers +/-
1 percent accuracy on every bucket.
In 2019, Load Assist was made standard on the
L150H to L260H wheel loaders, and the Operator
Coaching app was launched to provide real-time
guidance to operators. The newest updates
extend Load Assist to the L60-L90 range, and
further enhance ease of operation, safety and
overall site efficiency.
The Co-Pilot touch screen now displays tire
pressure and temperature in real time. Each tire is
monitored independently, and pressure limits are
set per axle. If any tire gets outside those parameters, the operator will be alerted. The data can also
be made available on CareTrack, Volvo's standard
telematics system, so site managers can analyze
trends for similar site conditions in the future.
A Map app uses the loader's built-in GPS for
positioning and telecom connection on the Co-Pilot
to communicate between machines. Operators can
monitor on-site traffic in real time and proactively
adjust their driving, especially in areas where multiple
