Pipelines 2019 Conference:
Concepts in Harmony

The Maryland Chapter of UESI proudly announced its formation
and hosted a kick-off event on March 8. More than 60 attendees enjoyed a full day of learning, collaborating and networking,
and the opportunity to earn four Professional Development
Hours (PDHs).
Presentations by local municipalities and consulting firms offered
valuable information on current issues affecting the community and
industry, as well as engineering best practices and priority projects.
A roundtable discussion concluded the meeting, promoting a dynamic exchange between attendees and speakers. The celebration
continued after the meeting, at a networking "happy hour" offsite.
Based on the success of the event, leadership is optimistic that
the chapter will thrive, with active participation from local agencies, consultants and industry partners. *

Join pipelines, utilities and surveying engineering professionals at the Pipelines 2019 Conference, in "music city"-Nashville, Tenn.-July 21 to 24, for "Concepts in Harmony."
"For those in the pipelines and utilities industry," said
Anna Pridmore, Ph.D., P.E., M.ASCE, conference cochair and
vice president-Pipeline Solutions at Structural Technologies,
"this conference delivers the very best in technical content,
along with a great opportunity to network with friends and
colleagues from all over North America and worldwide."
The core of the conference is eight tracks of concurrent,
cutting-edge and practical, technical sessions on every aspect
of pipeline engineering: planning and design, construction
and rehabilitation, condition assessment, engineering and
surveying, and multi-discipline topics, as well as panel discussions on ethics and diversity in engineering. Attendees can
earn up to 26 Professional Development Hours (PDHs) in less
than a full week.
Pre-Congress Workshops will delve more in-depth, devoting four hours to a single topic, such as Large-Diameter
Pipeline Forum, Emergency Preparedness, AASHTO Guide
for Inspection of Culvert and Storm Drain Systems, Utility
Mapping Asset Management, and Filling your Project Management Toolkit.
Keynote speakers will offer insight and inspiration for
your personal and professional well-being. George Hawkins,
past CEO of DC Water and current founder of the non-profit Moonshot Partners, for example, will share his ideas on
achieving "better, faster, cheaper" outcomes. "Our group will
be enriched through his combination of vision, wit and real-life experience," Pridmore commented.
As a prime networking event, the Pipelines Conference
fosters interaction between professionals at all stages of their
careers: seasoned leaders, public sector employees, manufacturers, academia, younger members and students.
Close to 100 booths in the expansive Exhibit Hall will
feature the latest in technologies, equipment, materials and
services, as well as engagement with the extremely knowledgeable exhibitors. Scheduled times to connect with others include two plenary meals, a wellness lunch, dedicated
breaks, and a Welcome Reception.
Technical Tours will highlight components of Nashville's
water system-"some of our city's most impressive water infrastructure sites," said Hal Balthrop, P.E., conference cochair
and assistant director of Nashville's Metro Water Services-Development Services Division. "They are great examples of how
our industry can enable, integrate and coexist successfully in
a growing urban area."
There's also the chance to discover and enjoy what makes
"music city" a top destination in the South. "While in Nashville, we hope that you will take advantage of our unique,
