This gripping, character-driven story follows New Orleans residents as they attempt the daunting task of trying to reunite with their pets who have been adopted by families all over the country, and chronicles the custody battles that arise when two families love the same pet. Who determines the fate of the animals—and the people—involved? ALSC PRESENTS “LIBRARY OF THE EARLY MIND”
This documentary film is an exploration of the art and impact of children’s literature on our kids, our culture, and ourselves. From the first stories we hear told to us to those childhood heroes that stay with us a lifetime, the impact on our culture runs deeper than what we might expect. “No one suspects the children’s writer,” says author and illustrator Mo Willems, a former ‘Sesame Street’ writer. The film features nearly 40 prominent authors and illustrators talking about their work, its genesis and its impact. The number of books in print by the authors in ‘Library of the Early Mind’ exceeds 240 million. A panel discussion with film producer Ted Delaney will directly follow the film. SRRT FEMINIST TASK FORCE PRESENTS “PINK SARIS”
full-length 2010 Oscar-nominated documentary. The film showing falls within the fortieth anniversary of the ten-day period during which Ellsberg and his wife simultaneously went into hiding and disseminated the Pentagon Papers to various publishers including the New York Times and the Washington Post. The Pentagon Papers played an enormous role in turning the tide of public opinion on the Vietnam War. It was the Nixon administration that dubbed Daniel Ellsberg The Most Dangerous Man in America. FREE. Panel discussion afterward, time permitting. Seymour Wishman, President, First Run Feature Films, has been kind enough to make this program possible.

Movies, Movies, Movies. You are invited to an entertaining and educational movie night with the Feminist Task Force and Women Make Movies (www.wmm.com). The program includes an introductory speaker and a showing of “Pink Saris.” The award winning film, “Pink Saris” by director Kim Longinotto is an unflinching and often amusing look at unlikely political activists and their charismatic leader; in extraordinary scenes, we watch Sampat launch herself into the centre of family dramas, witnessed by scores of spectators, convinced her mediation is the best path for the vulnerable girls, though some are less certain.
