ALA PRESIDENT’S PROGRAM ANNUAL 2011 Sunday June 26th, 3:30 PM - 5:30 PM SUE GARDNER - WIKIPEDIA: PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE Sue Gardner is Executive Director of the Wikimedia Foundation, the non-profit charitable organization that operates Wikipedia and nine other free-knowledge wikis. Wikimedia operates the largest collaboratively-edited reference projects in the world, including Wikipedia, one of the world’s 10-most-popular sites. Since her arrival at Wikimedia, Gardner has introduced major initiatives focused on organizational maturity, long-term sustainability, and increased participation, reach, and quality of the Foundation’s freeknowledge projects. Gardner will discuss the evolution of Wikipedia and what lies ahead. LIBRARIES BUILD COMMUNITIES Friday, June 24, 2011, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM Libraries and others in the New Orleans still need help! Sign up to volunteer on Friday, June 24th. Join fellow attendees in a rewarding day assisting the New Orleans Public Library, schools, and community rebuilding projects. A chance to give back, and meet others from all over. Register to participate in this daylong service effort to help local libraries and the community! All participants will be notified in advance of the various projects and be able to pick the one in which they wish to participate. Volunteers are able to select projects of interest. Lunch, transportation, and a participation T-shirt are included.
