O

n Sunday, June 25 from 8:00
- 10:00 a.m., the Reference
and User Services Association
(RUSA) is hosting its annual Literary
Tastes event celebrating the best reading of
the year. Confirmed authors include Julia

Audiobook Narration), Gregg Hurwitz,

Each year expert readers' advisory librar-

ians from RUSA's Collection Development and Evaluation Section (CODES)
spend hundreds of hours reading and
reviewing books written for adults to identify the most outstanding writing published in the areas of fiction, non-fiction,
poetry, genre fiction, Jewish literature and
audiobook narration. "Literary Tastes" is
an opportunity to hear from noteworthy
authors whose books are among their annual selections and celebrate the art and
craft of writing with fellow readers and
book lovers. Authors will be signing free
books immediately following the event.
Light breakfast will be served. This
event is free for all ALA Annual Conference attendees.

nited for Libraries, RUSA, and ALA
Chapter Relations will host a joint
discussion group on "Crisis Communication: Who Speaks for Your Library"
from 1:00 - 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 25
at McCormick Place West, W194b.
What happens when a newspaper calls the
library for a quote on a Saturday morning? Is
it your Library Director or Trustee who answers an elected official's question about the
library? In the event of a materials challenge,
who serves as the library's spokesperson? Stuff
happens, whether you work for a public,
academic, or school library. Are you ready
in a crisis, whatever it may be?
This program/discussion will feature
Macey Morales, deputy director of ALA's
Public Awareness Office; Susan Jennings,
past president of the Tennessee Library Association, and Brian Auger, director of the

Somerset County (N.J.) Public Library.
Participants will use scenarios and roleplaying to learn how to prepare statements
and a crisis communication plan for their
libraries.
