people with temporary or permanent low
vision, blindness, or a physical disability that
prevents them from reading or holding the
printed page. Through a national network of
cooperating libraries, NLS circulates books
and magazines in braille or audio formats,
delivered by postage-free mail or instantly

Collections Storage Modules at Fort Meade,

Two tours of the Library's state-of-the-art
high-density storage facility at Fort Meade
Maryland
Four hours each and registration fee includes bus transportation.
The Library's main preservation facility is
designed and built to create and optimal preservation environment for the library's physical

collections, including books and bound periodicals, as well as maps, manuscripts, prints,
photographs, sheet music, and microfilm
masters. Five modules and four cold storage
rooms have already been completed and are
fully operational, and construction has begun
on a sixth. When construction of all modules
is completed, there will be five single size
(12,500 sq ft) and four double size (25,000
sq ft) modules, in addition to the cold storage
rooms, located on a secure 100-acre site within
the U.S. Army Base at Fort Meade. https://

What intellectual freedom
issues have recently been in the
news? How can library workers
assist in defending privacy and
the right to access information
across the country? Where are
conversations about these topics
taking place?
At the Intellectual Freedom
101 session on Friday, June 21 from
2:30 - 3:30 p.m. at the Marriott Marquis, Georgetown University, intellectual
freedom leaders will discuss censorship
trends and specific ways that library
workers can get involved with ALA
groups and related organizations. Attendees will hear from and can pose questions to the ALA Office for Intellectual
Freedom (OIF), Intellectual Freedom

Committee (IFC), IFC Privacy Subcommittee, the Committee on Professional
Ethics (COPE), the Intellectual Freedom
Round Table (IFRT), and the Freedom to
Read Foundation (IFRT).
This session is the perfect introduction for members who are looking to get
involved with intellectual freedom activities, and a great refresher for intellectual
freedom fighters on current trends and
issues in the field.
