Electronic Impact Report 2017 - 9

Our members care for 20%  of the Medi-Cal population
for less than three cents on the dollar.
Our members produce 22% lower costs to MediCal than other primary care providers.
Our members generate $1.17 billion in economic
impact annually.
Our members employ 5,058 people in our region.

We coordinated and directed annual legislation days for
members in Sacramento and D.C., facilitating member
visits with all 18 state legislators and all 8 federal
representatives.
We took our advocacy to the field during this fiscal year,
exemplified by visits with:
New Assemblymember Sabrina Cervantes at
Community Health Systems, Inc.
Congressman Darrell Issa at Vista Community
Clinic.
Senator Kamala Harris' State Office in Los Angeles.
Assemblymember Shirley Weber's Health Care
Stakeholder's meeting.
Congresswoman Susan Davis' Town Hall.

In another proactive collaboration, we orchestrated
a seventh anniversary celebration for the ACA in
March 2017 at HCP-member San Diego Family Care.
This event generated 88 million gross impressions
nationwide.
Our communication vehicles created to support
advocacy, included:

Regular meetings with legislators have occurred
throughout the year, like our meetings with legislators
on the House Energy & Commerce Committee, to
educate them on health center performance and its
relevance. This culminated with Vernita Todd being
interviewed by Congressman Mark Takano live on
Facebook to discuss the Better Care Reconciliation Act
(BCRA).

A Get-Out-The-Vote campaign using social media;
Election Analysis e-blasts to our tri-county area,
including talking points for members' use from
NACHC, CPCA and BPHC; and, a
Save-the-Safety Net petition targeted to the
general public.
We joined forces in our advocacy mission with other
groups, such as the NACHC January "D.C. Fly-in"
targeting Republican House members and facilitated
member visits to the offices of all eight Congress men
and women, and California's two Senators in
Washington, D.C.

Throughout FY16-17, we made sure to keep our
members and colleagues informed of our advocacy
efforts, with monthly information breakfasts for
member CEOs and regular quarterly legislative
breakfasts for HCP members and legislative staff.

In March, SVP for External Affairs, Vernita Todd,
was awarded NACHC's "Grassroots Healthcare
Advocate Hall of Fame Award."
