As we begin a fresh (and very frosty) new year, we look ahead with great

eagerness to the months ahead and everything the HD brand is offering. Our
Summit is celebrating 14 years of learning and camaraderie in late February.
This year's HD Expo in May promises to be the best ever. I'm particularly looking
forward to my one-on-one with Michael Bedner, industry legend and amazing
raconteur; if you've ever met Michael, you'll know he's smart, candid, witty, and
unpredictable. In June, it's the second annual NextGen Forum in Chicago, a
follow-up to the successful conference for those industry pros on their way to being
tomorrow's leaders. That same month, the HD
Awards ceremony will be in New York, always
a breezy and festive night out. September brings
HD Americas, with its focus on the business of
design in our neighboring countries to the south.
And last but not least, our Platinum Circle event
in November; its successful transplant to New
York last year caused one industry veteran to dub
it "the party of the year" and we were inclined
to agree!
In keeping with the theme of looking ahead,
we've dedicated this issue to destinations
you should be watching as fertile areas of
development for hospitality-India, Doha,
Kurdistan, and other places you might not expect
to be areas of growth.
Beginning with the next issue, I'll be
handing over the editorial reins of Hospitality Design to our executive editor, Stacy
Shoemaker Rauen, while I will continue to serve the brand as editorial director.
In her new role as editor in chief, Stacy will take on the content and direction of
the magazine and the website, while I'll assume the lion's share of the duties of
the conference portion of our enterprise: speakers for Summit, panelists for the
tradeshows, and the production and hosting of two of our signature events-the
awards show and Platinum Circle.
The distinction between our titles may be indiscernible to most. I'll still have a
hand in what goes into the magazine, and Stacy, as always, will be deeply involved
in all of our events. We've worked together for about a dozen years so far, and have
become symbiotic in our vision and aesthetic.
And as for Stacy, it goes without saying to anyone who knows her that I turn
over the title to someone brilliantly well-qualified for the position. Bright, tireless,
enthusiastic, (and with best virtual Rolodex in the business) Stacy has been
instrumental in making Hospitality Design the best of its type. With this partnership,
I know its best days are still ahead.
