Welcome to our annual development
issue. Each year, we take a step back to see where
growth is happening in our industry. We naturally
look at construction and tourism numbers,
but we're also paying attention to high-profile
projects and brands entering the mix (you'll see
a few familiar names pop up here). From West
Hollywood to Rotterdam, these dozen places show
how good design can elevate all areas. Further,
we delve into three projects that are deeply rooted
in their locales-a coastal retreat in Greece, a
charming lodge in France, and a major brand's
return to Montreal.
Beyond that, we check in with two firms that are revitalizing neighborhoods
and cities the world over. Whether adaptive reuse or a new build, ODA's ethos is
all about bringing design back to the community, while development firm BLVD
has spent the last decade revitalizing Downtown Los Angeles' Broadway corridor.
It's thanks to firms like these that we're seeing the positive impact of design.
Next month, our entire issue will be devoted to wellness-from new concepts
to the people behind them. As the $4 trillion industry continues to grow, we are
watching what that means for hospitality and other design disciplines. Extending
the pages of the magazine to our annual tradeshow HD Expo, we are bringing the

We are also partnering with the American Society of Interior Designers
(ASID) and the International Well Building Institute (IWBI) to launch the Well
Conference, March 29th-April 1st at the Fairmont Princess in Scottsdale, which
focuses on the health and wellness implications of the places and spaces where
we spend our lives. Over three days, we will explore what it means to be well
across all sectors of design-workplace, hospitality, residential, and healthcare.
