Contract, design:retail, Healthcare Design, Environments for Aging (EFA), and Hospitality Design
magazines (all part of Emerald Expositions) are leaders in their own fields. But for our first Women
in Design event, we wanted to come together to do something bigger: celebrate women across all
design disciplines. We have gathered a stellar group of 10 impressive leaders who have pushed design
boundaries, redefined the norm, and inspired (and mentored) the next generation. It is an honor to
celebrate them here in these pages as well as at a luncheon in New York on October 30th, as they have
changed-and continue to change-their industries for the better. Their profiles follow, but log on to

We are also excited to welcome our luncheon keynote speaker, Barbara Bradley Baekgaard,
cofounder of Vera Bradley. In her decades-long career leading her innovative retail brand for women
(which is named after her mother), she also cofounded the Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer
in 1998, raising millions of dollars for research. In exchange for her appearance, Emerald Expositions
will donate to this important cause.

Eventscape for creating the trophies for the honorees. Designed and fabricated by women, the Corianetched pillar features a walnut slice to represent the percentage of women in the design field. It shows
us this event might be more important than ever.
