1. The healing garden, running from the main front
entrance to the ED entrance at the opposite end,
provides light into the main concourse as well as respite
areas for patients, staff, and visitors. The modern,
contemporary garden uses a geometry that mirrors
the building. 2. The dining facility accommodates a full
kitchen and servery, punctuated by full views to the
outside landscape, an outdoor dining terrace, and a
private garden. An expansive window wall facing south
and east maximizes daylight. 3. The main entry space
accommodates two conference rooms, for hospital
and community use; a public café; gift shop; and views
into the chapel (designated by accented cladding to
identify it as a special feature). The use of stone, etched
glass, and porcelain ties the space to the landscape
and contributes to the movement and light in the space.
The prominent floating sculpture is visible from the
entry and the second floor ICU waiting space. 4. The
all-private patient rooms are designed with three distinct
zones: the clinical zone, with a touchdown area and
hand sink; the patient zone; and a family zone, with
convertible furniture and a higher ceiling. The footwall
includes equipment and materials storage, patient
wardrobe and storage, and family shelf and storage. 5.
The concourse is designed as a very light, open space
with clear circulation, with the ED at one end and D&T
and public spaces clearly visible and accessible along
the spine. The stone cladding used on the exterior
is continued. Etched glass, featuring a tree pattern
referencing Germantown foliage, is used throughout to
delineate main public and functional spaces, including
registration, the gift shop, and café. 6. The main

reception desks are collocated for ease of identification
and circulation for visitors. The desks are clearly visible
from both entry points into the building.
