Adapt, survive, thrive

was clear: Healthcare providers and

need to keep adapting in order to

Give more attention to
rightsizing
Gary Vance, director of
national healthcare at BSA
Lifestructures (Indianapolis), told attendees that the industry hasn't gone
far enough in rightsizing. "It separates
user wants from user needs," he said.

people are," Adrian Hagerty,
principal and regional vice president
of the national capital region for Array
Architects, said during his presentation,
"Adaptive Reuse: A High-Performing
Option for Healthcare."
Among the reasons to consider
adaptive reuse, Hagerty said, are the
availability of real estate that enables
providers to be closer to patients'
homes; accessibility, available parking,
and alignment with existing transportation networks; and the speed of
delivery.

The second edition of "Sustainable
Commercial Interiors," by Penny Bonda
and Katie Sosnowchik, with Summer
Minchew, offers a guide for design
professionals looking to understand the
latest in green and sustainable design
for commercial interiors.
The 418-page resource includes
design strategies and frameworks based
on the new LEED v4 rating system;
information on water and energy usage,
materials, furnishings, finishes, product
standards, and certifications; essays
by industry professionals; and case
studies documenting green design and
building strategies. New to this edition
is a discussion about the link between
human health and buildings and the
evolving transparency initiatives within
the industry.
