PRODUCTINNOVATION INNOVATION WINNERS PRODUCT GALLERY HealWell SILVER Product introduction date: September 2014 Submitted by: Philips Lighting http://www.usa.lighting.philips.com/home healthcare.lighting@philips.com HealWell dawn HealWell daytime HealWell improves hospital patient rooms by supporting patient comfort and enhancing staff performance. Using a multichannel LED platform, shades of warm and cool as well as tinted light change throughout the day and night to reinforce patients' circadian rhythms. To further support recovery, colorful lighting accents foster a pleasant atmosphere. A frequently heard quip: "You can't rest in a hospital" proves true all too often. Philips Lighting previously released HealWell using fluorescent lights, available in Europe. Today's solution has been redesigned to take advantage of innovations in digital LED lighting systems with integrated controls to offer a circadian precision solution. This is one of the first times that spectrally tuned light settings are being used to support circadian rhythms, improve sleep, and provide a comfortable environment for staff and caregivers. There is a lot of fundamental research on the impact of light on humans' circadian rhythm. HealWell was developed by a team of researchers and engineers working with this information and building on the idea that the spectral content of light can have a positive impact on maintaining a regular rhythm. The result: an integrated patient and care provider solution. It supports the sleep/wake cycle of chronic care patients by delivering precisely tuned spectral content and light levels throughout the day and providing appropriate light levels for staff. HealWell dusk Jury comments: * This lighting system may need further research to confirm its goals, but it's a good start in adjusting the often stark hospital lighting to add in the healing process. * This item has multiple attributes for healthcare use. The fixture address the healing and health aspects of a patient's needs, and a staff person's work environment-especially the night staff. In addition, it addressed the need for energy efficiency within a large facility, providing cost savings that can in turn be funneled to additional patient needs.
