PROJECT WATCH The Jan Bishop Cancer Center at Yampa Valley Medical Center The Jan Bishop Cancer Center at Yampa Valley Medical Center is a stateof-the-art facility serving patients and their families in Steamboat Springs, Colorado and beyond. This 8,900 s.f. cancer center was designed to replace an existing small and outdated center into a modern, comfortable, healing environment. The cancer center was designed by Boulder Associates Architects, and constructed by Haselden Construction. Construction finished in December 2016 and it opened shortly thereafter. The design team took advantage of the beautiful surroundings by building a large outdoor balcony for patients and their families to have a scenic place to relax. The infusion bays and family waiting areas are positioned to have views of the ski mountains and a large fireplace warms the family waiting area. Its glass and terracotta façade is iconic and creates a welcoming entrance for patients and visitors. The focus on natural light and organic, curving features eases visitors into their experience of the building, while the new patient floor program emphasizes privacy and personal agency for the patient.
