WHENEVER I TALK with project teams, I'm always

struck by the immense amount of planning and design that goes into any one healthcare facility. And
when I'm able to tour a project in person, I'm equally
intrigued by another detail-the volume of products
that had to be specified in order to achieve the owner's vision and, most important, to make the space
functional and safe.
It's an easy thing to take for granted as a patient-
of course the healthcare buildings we visit will have
flooring, furniture, lighting, and some paint on the
walls. But you and I understand that the same rigorous planning and design
that went into the architecture also went into developing those products to
ensure each one can withstand the intense challenges that come with healthcare use.
It's one reason we launched the Buyers Guide issue of Healthcare Design
in 2017, to serve as a resource our audience can turn to throughout the year,
connecting buyers with sellers of the healthcare-specific products they require. Whether you're on the hunt for resilient flooring, wayfinding signage,
staff workstations, patient room seating, or anything in between-we have it
covered.
You may have noticed other new ways that HCD has been covering products and providing more access points to assist in the specification process.
In late 2016, we introduced a Product Spotlight section that now appears in
every regular issue of the magazine, where we highlight the latest offerings
from vendors with descriptions of how those products can be used in healthcare, specifically. This year, watch for category-centric coverage, including
textiles in the February issue, artwork in March, and flooring in April.
In 2017, we also launched a comprehensive product section at HCDmagazine.
com where we highlight new products organized by category, with descriptions, photos, and links to manufacturers' websites.
This year we'll also be developing more in-depth trend reports that dive
into product-driven sectors of the industry, with a specific eye on interior
design-related topics including updates on aesthetics (May) and materials
(September). The goal is to help readers get up to speed not only on the colors,
patterns, and finishes in vogue but the latest technologies and innovations
shaping the product development process and, ultimately, the effectiveness
of what's on the market.
Comprehensively, these resources are aimed at making the design team's
job a lot easier, and kicking things off for the year is this Buyers Guide. Grab
your highlighter and dig in. 
