DAVE BURK PHOTOGRAPHY LLC 2019 L E FT: The seamless progression from public to private spaces gives the center more of a campus feel and allows patients and visitors easy access to the outdoors. This colonnade connects the main entrances of the new tower with the original medical center. OPPOS I TE : Deeply recessed openings in the public spaces reduce glare while bringing in light and extending views for those waiting for appointments or visiting a patient. also consistent between the buildings, with the exterior sandstone woven into the interior design and complemented by warm woods and artwork. The two phases of the medical center are connected through corridors at both the ground- and second-floor levels. One of the key additions on the new tower was a children's ICU, designed to deliver specialized care to the pediatric population and accommodate families. Bengali fables are depicted in the interior design of the pediatric unit, providing comfort and familiarity for children. An open terrace off the pediatric ward provides staff with connection to nature, as well as a space for kids to be in a non-medical environment. An intrinsic part of the new tower is the education and research wing, which has a separate entrance lobby to assist in the independent organization of faculty and student events and to encourage interaction and collaboration. Connecting corridors link it to both medical towers. SEPTEMBER 2019 41
