As we enter a new year in 2022, we would like to pause and say thank you to all our valued custoers
- 2021 was an unprecedented year. 2022 promises to be an interesting year as our industry continues
to evolve. The BioTherapeutics Quarterly journal will continue the mission of providing you with current,
relative information in the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of disease. We hope you find the topics
featured in this volume informative.
Vaccination is critical to controlling the COVID-19 pandemic, and health care providers play an
important role in achieving high vaccination coverage. Empowering health care providers to recommend
vaccination to their patients could help reinforce confidence in, and increase coverage with, COVID-19
vaccines, particularly among groups known to have lower COVID-19 vaccination coverage, including
younger adults, racial/ethnic minorities, and rural residents. Proceed to MMWR: Report of Health Care

Another variant of SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes COVID-19), B.1.1.529 (Omicron), was first reported to the World Health
Organization (WHO) by South Africa on November 24, 2021. Omicron has numerous mutations with potential to increase
transmissibility, confer resistance to therapeutics, or partially escape infection- or vaccine-induced immunity. Implementation of
concurrent prevention strategies, including vaccination, masking, increasing ventilation, testing, quarantine, and isolation, are
recommended to slow transmission of SARS-CoV-2, including variants such as Omicron, and to protect against severe illness and

discusses this in greater detail.
Now that COVID-19 vaccination is available for everyone ages 5 years and older, parents may have questions for you. Hearing your
answers to their questions can help parents feel more confident vaccinating their children and teens. It's important to tell parents
that you recommend COVID-19 vaccination for children ages 5 years and older to give them the most powerful protection we have

is not unusual for adults to need more than one vaccination at an office visit. When that occurs, CDC recommends giving all needed

More than 868,000 Americans die of heart disease, stroke, or other cardiovascular diseases every year-that's one-third of all U.S.
deaths. These diseases also take an economic toll, costing $214 billion a year to our health care system and causing $138 billion in lost
