As summer passes by and autumn gets closer, the BioTherapeutics Quarterly journal strives to bring you the latest
information on topics that are of interest to you, the health care practitioner. The BioTherapeutics Quarterly's goal
is to provide our loyal customers current, relative information on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment
of disease.
Role of Brain Development in Hereditary Autism Spectrum Disorder on page 8 discusses how the results of
a study suggest how genetic factors may influence the development of autism spectrum disorder and suggest
directions for early intervention strategies. Researchers have used MRI to study brain development in infant
siblings of children with ASD. These studies have identified changes to brain development during the first two years
of life that precede ASD diagnosis.
Throughout calendar years 2019-2020, 52.4% of children and adolescents aged 1-17 years received an influenza
vaccine within the previous 12 months. The percentage was highest in children and adolescents with private
insurance followed by those with public insurance and lowest in the uninsured. Turn to page 11 to learn more in

State and local school vaccination requirements serve to protect students against vaccine-preventable diseases. MMWR: Vaccination Coverage
with Selected Vaccines and Exemption Rates Among Children in Kindergarten-United States, 2020-21 School Year beginning on page 13
discusses how compared to 2019-20 school year, vaccination coverage decreased by approximately 1 percentage point of all vaccines.
Although 2.2% of kindergartners had an exemption from at least one vaccine, an additional 3.9% who did not have a vaccine exemption were not
up to date for MMR. The COVID-19 pandemic affected schools' vaccination requirement and provisional enrollment policies,
documentation, and assessment activities. As schools continue to return to in-person learning, enforcement of vaccination policies and
followup with under-vaccinated students are important to improve vaccination coverage.
In November 2021, the CDC was notified of a cluster of previously healthy children with hepatitis of unknown etiology evaluated at a single
U.S. hospital. On April 21, 2022, following an investigation of this cluster and reports of similar cases in Europe, a health advisory was issued
requesting U.S. providers to report pediatric cases of hepatitis of unknown etiology to public health authorities. In the United States and
Europe, many of these patients have also received positive adenovirus test results. Proceed to page 22 to learn more in the article MMWR: Trends

Preventing Chronic Disease: Challenges to Adolescent HPV Vaccination and Implementation of Evidence-Based Interventions to Promote
Vaccine Uptake During the COVID-19 Pandemic: " HPV Is Probably Not at the Top of Our List " starting on page 31 discusses how the
COVID-19 pandemic has prevented many adolescents from receiving their vaccines, including human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine, on time;
however, little is known about the impact of the pandemic on the implementation of clinic-level evidence-based interventions (EBIs) that help to
improve HPV vaccine uptake. In this study, the pandemic's impact on EBI implementation and HPV vaccine delivery is explored.
