preventive
health care
Prevention is Power is a new, multi-year public health awareness campaign to drive patient adoption
of a preventive, integrated health care model to improve overall health outcomes. We will increase
health literacy; foster an understanding of the connection between oral health and overall health for
providers and patients; and promote the importance of maintaining routine preventive care to reduce the
burden of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs), including heart disease, diabetes, and other conditions.
The campaign will include the Prevention is Power Health Care Screening Program, a special partnership
with the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC) to promote utilization of integrated
preventive health care, maintenance, and early detection among patients with chronic conditions through
patient education and support. Selected CHCs receive cash, in-kind grants, and educational materials to
support community-based screening events, campaigns, and programs related to NCDs and oral health.
The campaign will also include pilots in select geographies in partnership with providers to bring new
patients into regular primary care, including oral care, as well as provide tools for clinicians in private
practice and larger health systems.
