AMERICAN COLLEGE THEATRE FESTIVAL AWARDS FOR EXCELLENCE IN THEATRICAL DESIGN t the 1987 national American A College Theatre Festival twO students were selected for awards for excellence in theatrical design. The recipients were Doug West for his set design for Macbeth at the University of Portland, Portland, Oregon, and Elsa Dedman for her costume designs for Jesus Christ Superstar at the University of Hawaii, Hilo, Hawaii. The winners were chosen from six set design and ten costume design finalists. Judges for the awards were set designer Robin Wagner and costume designer Ann Roth. Prior to the judging on April 11 at the Kennedy Center, the entries were on display in the Terrace Theatre lobby in Washington, D. C. Each winner receives a cash award and an all-expenses paid trip to ew York City to visit studios of distinguished designers. The students will also have the opportunity to visit backstage at major theatre, film, and television studios and visit various costume and scene shops.
