"Trustworthy; critical thinker, listener, motivator, open minded, challenging," were the words chosen by colleagues at a session of the USITT Conference & Stage Expo in Long Beach to describe the excelknt professoran archetype against which many teachers measure themselves. We compare ourselves to this ideal when we ponder who we are and how we teach. We might agree on some descriptors, but we might debate the inclusion of others. For instance, are excellent professors generous? Are they kind? Are they rational? When we attempt to rank which of these descriptors are the most important the debate grows exponentially. Is it more important to be fair or rigorous, creative or communicative? Y2)&T S I' R I 1\ G I 9 9 9 53
