What caught my imagination were some of the crossdressing street masquers who were part of the rites of Mardi Gras. One photograph featured a very dramatic masquer in a panniered fulllength skirt dripping with plastic appliques. Somehow the willingness of this individual to discard the ordinary and engage in such flights of fancy seemed an appropriate logo (figure 11) for a conference of people who make their living producing magic.
