inside e d i t o r William J. Byrnes Celebrating Fifty Years of USITT in 2010 By Bobbi Owen Got your start in the so did Let's celebrate ' 60 ? s together ! Planning the celebration for USITT's fiftieth year in business is an effort that encompasses the entire organization-from individual members, including those in Chapters and Sections, to the leaders of Commissions and Committees, and members of the Board of Directors. A steering committee is consolidating suggestions for fun ways to commemorate this magnificent milestone and everyone is encouraged to contribute their favorite party ideas by sending an e-mail to usittat50@usitt.org or by contacting one of the members of the committee who are listed on the USITT Web site at www.usitt.org/50/. Two of the suggestions gathered by committee-member David Whitney during the USITT Conference & Stage Expo in Phoenix this past March are an "Old Product Showcase" and a Tech Olympics staged as if it were 1960, complete with hammers and nails, ratcheting screw drivers, fast changes without Velcro, and unintelligent lights. Other projects being considered or already underway include a commemorative history of the Institute written by Richard Stephens, a book about "late/great designers" active between 1960 and 2010, and a huge gallery in Stage Expo 2010 of members' designs encompassing the years 1960 to 2010.
