Y ea rs Beeb by A Salzer neuroscientist explained memory to me. His analogy was a file cabinet from which one takes a folder. every time the folder is taken out and then returned, it changes slightly: a few pages are folded, pages rubbing together blur some letters or words, a small piece is torn from an edge. You get the idea. our memories change. one person's memory of an event differs from another's although both experienced the same event. Husbands and wives are sometimes at odds over memories. Witnesses in criminal trials are often unreliable. so what follows are a few of my memories that over fifty years may represent only an approximation of what happened. 18 theatre design & teChnology W I N T E R 2010
