People in the News UPS announced Norman M. Brothers, Jr. was named senior vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary, Brothers effective Jan. 1, 2016. Tim McNulty has been named to the expanded role of vice president-agriculture, which will Northwestern's Gellman Dies at 85 Aaron Gellman, who had served as director of the Transportation Center at Northwestern University from January 1992 until August 2000, has died at the age of 85. Gellman's early fascination with transportation led him to focus on bringing together not only the different modes but also identifying and helping to evolve the role of technology in transportation. His accomplishments ranged from helping to design a specialized rail car for liquefied natural gas to consulting with FedEx on its transportation issues. Gellman was a professor of management and strategy at Northwestern's Kellogg School of Management and a professor of industrial engineering and management sciences at the McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science. He took on the role of director of Northwestern's Transportation Center and helped design the Gellman building and advance the Center's academic and research roles. His wife Susanne died in 2013. He is survived by sons Samuel, Alexander and Daniel; a companion, Sheila Goldberg; and seven grandchildren. The Transportation Center will hold a memorial event in honor and celebration of Gellman's life and accomplishments at a date to be announced. Intermodal Pioneer Bruce Seaton Dies Former American President Lines CEO Bruce Seaton died Dec. 26, 2015 at the age of 90. Seaton is considered a pioneer in containerization and intermodal freight transportation. Under Seaton's leadership at APL, the company evolved forward double stack shipping and built the first postPanamax containerships. Seaton became president and COO of American President Lines in 1977 as the carrier was shifting focus from worldwide freight service to trans-Pacific routes. At that time, it began work on integrated intermodal now include the phosphate and fertilizer market that was previously part of the chemicals market. Canaveral Port Authority Commissioners unanimously selected Capt. John W. Murray as the next chief executive oﬃcer of Florida's Port Canaveral. Murray is currently president and CEO of Hapag-Lloyd USA, based in Tampa. services in the U.S. and shortly thereafter launched its LinerTrain direct rail, land-bridge service from the U.S. West Coast to New York using its own rail cars. Building on the success of the LinerTrain service, APL developed its StackTrain service in 1984 using double-stack rail cars to carry containers. Before his retirement in 1990, APL also introduced 48-foot and then 53-foot containers to U.S. domestic service. Seaton is survived by his wife Joyce and three stepsons Rick, Fred and Greg Barbaria. Crowley Maritime Corporation announced Kerri McClellan has been promoted to vice president and deputy general counsel for the corporation. The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance has appointed Collin B. Mooney as its new executive director.
