Silver Kingpin Award Selection Commences in June On or around June 1, IANA voting members will receive an electronic ballot for use in selecting the 2016 Silver Kingpin Award recipient. Effective with the 2015 award, the winner is chosen by the voting membership of the Association. Nominations received from IANA members will be reviewed by the Board of Directors at its May 6 meeting and a slate of Silver Kingpin candidates will be presented to the membership. Matt Rose to Address Intermodal EXPO 2016 Attendees Matthew K. Rose, executive chairman of BNSF Railway, will deliver a keynote address to EXPO attendees on Tuesday, Sept. 20. Rose served 13 years as the company's chief executive officer and 11 years as chairman, during which time BNSF became a Berkshire Hathaway-owned company. IANA Comments on Freight Plan UNF Hosts IANA Case Competition IANA recently submitted comments to the USDOT on its National Freight Strategic Plan. The Association's submittal thanked Congress and the Administration for their focus on freight infrastructure investments and for adopting a comprehensive multimodal approach to the movement of goods. It specifically noted that intermodal connectors, the points of ingress and egress between intermodal facilities and the National Highway System, are in some of the worst conditions, require significant investment and are essential to the mobility of freight movements. Specific to these connectors, IANA requested that they should be included as part of the Primary Highway Freight Network, the National Highway Freight Network and the Multimodal Freight Network, all of which are programs under the highway authorization legislation. The point was also made that the USDOT should give priority consideration to all intermodal connectors as it moves forward with policy and funding decisions.
