Georgia Ports Authority has eight
new neo-panamax cranes on order.
It will have a total of 30 ship-to-shore
cranes by 2018. It also added 30
rubber-tired gantry cranes to handle
containers on terminal.
Oakland Near-Dock Facility
Receives First Train
A100-car train carrying agricultural
products inaugurated a new, $100
million near-dock rail facility at the
Port of Oakland.
The new tracks are located in
the Port's Outer Harbor Intermodal
Terminal area, site of a former U.S.
Army base, and are part of a phased
rail expansion. They consist of five
manifest yard tracks and eight support
yard tracks.
The Asia-bound cargo will be
transferred from the rail cars directly
into containers and delivered to
the terminals for export. The Port of
Oakland has seen a growing market for
agricultural products, especially from
California's Central and Salinas Valleys
and the Midwest.
The rail yard was built using
California state Trade Corridor
Improvement Funds and federal
Transportation Investment Generating
Economic Recovery grants.

Continue to Grow
Mediterranean Shipping Company
confirmed that the 2M partners,
MSC and Maersk, have signed a
memorandum of understanding with
Hyundai Merchant Marine. HMM will
join the 2M vessel-sharing agreement
when its current agreement with the
G6 alliance ends in April 2017.
Separately, Hapag-Lloyd, a
member of THE Alliance, has signed
a merger agreement with United
Arab Shipping Company. Subject
to regulatory and other approvals,
the merged carrier would have 237
vessels representing 1.6 million TEUs
of capacity and annual volumes of
10 million TEUs. THE Alliance also
includes Hanjin, K-Line, MOL, NYK
and Yang-Ming.
