Follow IANA for the latest association news and events LinkedIn - www.linkedin.com/company/ intermodal-association-of-north-america Twitter - @IntermodalEXPO 2 Intermodal Insights | August 2016 Federal Update DOT FASTLANE Grants Benefit Intermodal The first list of grants under the Fostering Advancements in Shipping and Transportation for the Long-Term Achievement of National Efficiencies program was released by the U.S. Department of Transportation. Of 212 applications requesting $9.8 billion, 18 projects were selected to receive a total of $759 million in fiscal year 2016. Funding for next year's program will increase to $850 million and then by $50 million increments for the remaining three years, reaching $1 billion in 2020. The grants provide up to 60 percent of eligible project costs. Virginia's Atlantic Gateway Project received the largest allocation - $165 million. The Atlantic Gateway Project is a $1.4 billion public-private effort to eliminate multimodal bottlenecks on the Interstate 95 corridor south of Washington, D.C. The Port of Savannah International Multimodal Connector was also granted $44 million. The project is expected to cost $126.7 million and will increase rail capacity and velocity at the Garden City Container Terminal. Other grants with intermodal components include the following: * The Cedar Rapids Logistics Park was awarded $25.7 million for the Iowa Department of Transportation's $46.5 million project to construct a full service intermodal facility. * The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey was tendered $10.7 million for the Cross Harbor Freight Program, which will improve the port's railcar float system, increase capacity at the 65th Street Yard, and double track a portion of the New York New Jersey Rail.
